| Decorative fern-like leaves and bamboo-like stems earn this landscape mainstay the name ‘Heavenly Bamboo’. Graceful and delicate in appearance, Nandina are actually among the most durable, adaptable and widely used landscape plants. The varieties differ greatly, from the bold red ‘Firepower’, to the fine, lacy, fern-like ‘San Gabriel’, there are varieties available to suit just about any landscape need.
Probably the most outstanding characteristic of this plant is the attractive, lacy foliage which resembles bamboo leaves. The new growth is often bronze to rose in color, becoming green with age. In the fall and winter, the growth takes on autumn leaf colors: red, orange, bronze, and pink. Commonly called 'Heavenly Bamboo,' Nandina can be used in just about any part of the landscape. It grows especially well in full or partial sun where the foliage color is superb.
